2021 Town Meeting

The Board of Civil Authority voted to hold the 2021 Town Meeting at the Town Office on Tuesday, March 2nd.  There will be no in-person Town Meeting; everything will be voted by Australian Ballot.  These changes are for the 2021 Town Meeting only.

Polls will open at 7AM and close at 7PM on March 2nd.
A postcard will be sent to all active voters allowing them to request and absentee ballot. You can also call/email the Town Office and request a ballot.

In-person voting will be available, but due to COVID-19, voters should choose the vote by absentee ballot.


Virtual Information Meeting: Date/Time TBD
A mandatory informational meeting must be held 10 days before the Town Meeting. Further information on the day/time will be posted on this page and around town. This meeting will be held virtually, most like by conference call. Please read the Town Report when you receive it. In their report, the Roxbury Selectboard will explain the articles to be voted on.

Deadline for submitting petitions for articles to be added to the Town Meeting Warning:
Thursday, Jan 14th.
Deadline for submitting consent forms for candidates to be added to the Town Meeting Ballot:
Monday, Jan 25th.

Voting for Montpelier-Roxbury School District Positions

Three (3) positions are voted on at the Town Meeting:
School District Clerk, School District Treasurer, and School District Moderator.
Thirty (30) signatures by legal voters of Montpelier and Roxbury are required on the petitions for these positions.


About the Annual Town Meeting

Vermont is the only state which allows its citizens direct participation in the governing of their town. About 40 towns participate in this process. Town Meeting Day is a State Holiday and occurs annually on the first Tuesday in March.

Citizens of the Town of Roxbury VT meet each year to decide on various items pertaining to the running of the Town, and elects its town officials. Roxbury uses two voting methods: floor vote and Australian Ballot.

For 2020, the new tabulator machine will be used for all articles requiring a vote by Australian Ballot.

Reports by Town Officers, approval of monies necessary for town maintenance, taxes, and election of Town Officers and Montpelier-Roxbury School District offices are some of the items discussed and voted on. Non-residents cannot participate in Town Meetings.
